Sooo . . . music?
This forum is kinda dead lately, so I'll ask a question that everyone has an answer to. What music are you guys listening to right now? And what are some of your all-time favorite musicians/bands/CDs/genres?
It struck me yesterday that we haven't discussed personal music preferences in this class much. Besides a little bit of talk about The Beatles in the hallway before class. As music is possibly one of the most influential forms of pop culture, I think what a person listens to says a lot about them. (feel free to disagree with me; i'm sure someone will)

Re: Sooo . . . music?
Currently I am listening to Panic At The Disco. Pink Floyd and the Beatles are my favorite bands of all time. Feist is another favorite and I am going to her show tomorrow. I like an assortment of music really. Third Eye Blind, Eve6, Barenaked Ladies, etc. I also enjoy Sufjan Stevens, Rufus Wainwright, Danielson Famile, etc.
Re: Sooo . . . music?
My all-time favorites are Radiohead, Bjork, and The Beatles. I am going to the Radiohead show on the 8th and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED.
As for right now, I'm a little tired of everything. I've been listening to a lot of classical music because it's easier to study to than modern music. And when I'm cooking, I listen to Hot Chip.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
I'm jealous about you going to Radiohead, Liars are opening up and those are two of my favorite bands. Like I said in class, I work at the radio station, so the music I listen to and enjoy is mostly things that go SCREECH or just drone on one note for half an hour. It's really lame music.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
The radio station plays some good music. That's where I first heard about M.I.A. & heard my favorite Elliott Smith song for the first time.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
If you like Fiest, you should check out the band she was a part of called Broken Social Scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl3PyTqsc5c
Also while talking about rap yesterday and groundbreaking artists, a guy called Cadence Weapon came to mind, I really like his beats

I'm also a big fan of Busdriver's rapping style

Re: Sooo . . . music?
I have not heard Broken Social Circle but I knew she was a part of it. I really like what she does but some of her songs are too slow for me. I like to mellow out sometimes but not while I am driving and that is where I listen to the majority of my music. My favorite rap song has to be Can I Kick It? by A Tribe Called Quest. It samples Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed. SO good.

I dont intend to trash on your music taste, because I happen to frickin love the bands you mentioned.
But Third Eye Blind, Eve6, and Barenaked Ladies doesn strike me as an "assortment".
Why dont we just throw Matchbox Twenty in there to effectively stress your incredibly eclectic musical taste. (or maybe Hootie and the Blowfish. R.E.M., Blues Traveler..you know. something really genre-branching.)
Btw. What kinda music did you play in your band Emily. You said you were the soberest band ever which i thought was kinda intriguing.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
Ok when I said eclectic I wasn't thinking about that following those bands. Looking back that doesn't seem to be that different. I mean I can set the iPod to shuffle and have Sufjan play, followed by Feist, then Eagle Eye Cherry's Save Tonight. maybe a Pink Floyd song, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Beatles, and then some Bach or Beethoven to even it all out. I think that is a good assortment.
BTW
The Feist show was unbelievable! She is so fun and has a good time with her audience. I took videos and am going to compile them. I will link them once they are done.

Well, I kinda quit the band because despite being sober, my fellow members were lazy and unproductive. And yeah, a bunch of other reasons. Anyway . . . we're playing one last show on the 25th, and if you want to hear the music, you can go to http://www.myspace.com/paradeband
Thanks for asking.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
I've been on a Saul Williams kick lately. His spoken word stuff is also rather amazing. I'll pretty much listen to anything as long as it's tastefull. I'm not a big fan of current country but I'll listen to the classics like Cash and Willie. I'm also a huge fan of Bluegrass and I enjoy the old like Skaggs and Scrugs as well as Bele Fleck. Folk is great as long as it's not too slow. Old Springsteen and The Graduate era Simon and Garfunkel seem to get a bit of playing time. Pretty ecletic mix of music I guess. Also, Victor Wooten is pretty bad ass and Squarepusher makes my mind want to explode. I could go on forever since I really love music but I'll spare you brains.

Re: Sooo . . . music?
Have you heard Sparkle Horse? They have a song with Tom Waits that is really creepy but good. I am really really digging the new P a the D album. It's VERY different from their first album.
Re: Sooo . . . music?
These are eight youtube links to some of my favorite music videos (and one live show). Not only are they great songs, they're prime examples of what a music video can achieve. Give them a look if you feel the muses move you to.
