Repulsion, a fad? Empty Repulsion, a fad?

Post by heathnortham Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:06 pm

I thought it was hilarious when "Noisy Jacket" was so offended and repulsed about my political and religious stance that he had to get up and move. As joking as that may have been it is not new. I have been ostracized for being Conservative and for being "religious" since high school. I have, for the most part I would say, gotten along with everyone in our small class. Nobody had a problem with me until this little bit of information about me came out. I am not trying to be a martyr or bring attention to myself. I just found it to be interesting that someone's perception of a person can change when political/religious views are divulged even if they have been friends for sometime. I did the same thing to a guy I met at a "Spiritual Life Conference" in Young Harris. All that attended were Christian although it is not only for Christians. One person that attended did not speak the entire time but seemed to enjoy himself. I found out later that he was mocking us and was in fact Muslim or Atheist (this was never made clear). Anywho, to tie in with the topic heading I think that it has become a fad to be "anti-religious" and "progressive". Entire subgroups have spawned to hate another subgroup. Whether this will stop is another topic.

Looking back I realize this is a definite rant. I cannot rant like Dennis Miller can but I strive for it! Big Smile

I'm sorry I outed you as a Republican today in class. As I said in the other post, I have no problem with you as a Republican. In my opinions, both parties can be equally as bad. Likewise, I have no problem with you as a relgious person. When I was talking about religion in class today, I was criticizing the cult of religion and not the individual people who follow it.

I hope I didn't offend you.

O absolutely. I kind of consider Atheists as a religion. They "worship" an anti-god of some sort.

It's NOT a religion, dammit! Anyone who says it, whether it be Bible-thumping evangelicals or self-proclaimed aethists (with a small-letter a, which is the correct way of spelling it) are grossly misinformed.

But yeah, hatorade is definitely part of the human condition. Is it a fad? Not really. Not anymore than mob mentality is a fad.

Georgia State (and Atlanta city) is one big cultural outlier compared to the rest of Georgia. I finished up high school in Gwinnett County, which for the most part is very conservative, very sheltered and very, very white. The 25 liberals out of the 1000+ students that went there got so much flak for being liberals. A girl with a Kerry-Edwards 2004 bumper sticker got her car slashed, even. This works both ways too.

I think Hatorade is capitalized, if we're gonna get all picky about that kind of thing.

Though I do agree that ATHEISM is not a religion.

What constitutes a religion? A deity? If that were so then Buddhism wouldn't be one since there is no real deity (as I understand it). I mean you can argue that the belief in a lack of a god or afterlife is something that brings a group of people together and whereas it may not be a religion I think it is something similar.

Also, I went to Duluth High (in Gwinnett County) and there were plenty of liberal students as well as MANY liberal teachers. I do agree that the "Hatorade" goes both ways...like a bi-sexual.

If you break down the word A-THEISM, it literally means "no theism," which would make it seem that the definition itself implies no religion. Atheists do not share a system of beliefs; the only thing they do agree on is that there is no God.

I do not believe in God. I also do not believe in unicorns, but that does not mean that I share a religion with other people who do not believe in unicorns.

I appreciate your ability to accept other people's opinions and to admit that you may be wrong. It shows an admirable level of maturity.

Why would I feel the need to suck up to him?

And why do you always feel the need to criticize everything I say? Go pick on someone else.

I have found that the best thing to do when these people such as plaid pant guy do stuff like that is to confront them on that. If you'll remember that when this was done he really had no answer for his actions. I HATE THAT SHIT. I mean I could understand that if it was cheney in that seat and he happened to have a shot-gun in his hand but to do that for any other reason is just absurd.

Secret Ninja Double-Edit: No, too harsh, too dick, even for me.

"Would you like some cheese with your whine?"

There. Much better. Much less confrontational. We can all have a hearty laugh on this after Peak Oil crashes and we're forced to drink our own urine to survive.

I have been wondering if noisy jacket guy's jacket hurts when he leans back in a chair. Then I think it might be like a Indian guy laying on a bed of nails, which isn't suppose to be very painful, but it sure as hell can't feel that good either.

And I agree with FTC that there is some brown nosing in this thread, but we should also start bitching at him, just for no real cause other than he probably deserves it for something or other.

Is it wrong to make fun of noisy jacket guy when he is not here to represent himself? Or is it okay because he should be on the forum anyway and so it's his own fault?

To whom could that possibly be addressed, other than the people who will probably never see it because they have not registered. Likely due to the fact that they simply have no desire to be in on the conversations or have their voice heard.

Damn it.
